Namibia overrides Kenya in Barthes Trophy clash

Namibia’s U/20 rugby team continued their impressive run at the 2025 Barthes Trophy with a commanding 32-22 win over defending champions Kenya in their second match of the tournament, played yesterday in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The first half was error-ridden, with Namibia heading into the break 3-0. Even though they dominated possession, they were failing to convert chances. The second half was more lively as Kenya scored four tries, with Namibia also responding with four tries and conversion kicking.

With this performance, Namibia built on their momentum from Saturday’s opening fixture, where they stunned hosts Zimbabwe 41–22, the Namibian side once again demonstrated grit and skill to outclass the Kenyan outfit.

With two wins from two matches, Namibia now shifts focus to their final group game on Sunday, where they are set to take on Tunisia at 11h00.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Zimbabwe bounced back from their loss to Namibia with a hard-fought 20-18 victory over Tunisia.

Kenya, who had opened their campaign with a 34-12 win over Tunisia, now sits on one win and one loss same as Zimbabwe. Tunisia, yet to register a victory, will be aiming to upset Namibia in the final round to salvage pride.
