THE Namibia Sports Commission supported by the ministry of sports awarded eight local athletes, a cricket team, and their coaches N$1.045 million on Friday, in honour of their remarkable performances at the 13th edition of the Africa Games held in Accra, Ghana, in March this year.

Namibia proudly secured 10 medals at the competition, finishing 23rd on the medal table. The medal haul included one gold, three silvers, and five bronze medals across various sports such as swimming, cricket, cycling, wrestling, and athletics. 

At the games, Egypt came tops, securing a total of 192 medals across various competitions with a remarkable 103 gold, 47 silver and 42 bronze medals.

The Namibian athletes who received awards for their achievements include swimmer Ronan Wantenaar who bagged a gold and silver medal, swimmer Alexander Skinner who took silver and bronze medals, and Jessica Humphrey who brought home a bronze medal in swimming. 

While Ester Abraham took a bronze medal in wrestling, Anri Krugal managed to win a silver medal in cycling, and athletes Ryan Williams and Gilbert Hainuca settled for bronze medals at the competition. The Namibian cricket team also made the nation proud by winning a silver medal, and earning rewards for both the team and their coach.

The reward distribution was as follows: N$80 000 for gold, N$60 000 for silver, and N$40 000 for bronze.  Coaches received N$30 000 for each gold, N$20 000 for each silver, and N$15 000 for each bronze. The cricket team bagged N$300 000 for their silver medal, with their coach receiving N$100 000.
