WINDHOEK – In the two matches played last weekend in the NTA inter-club tennis challenge, Nampol tennis club recorded their maiden win in the league – defeating at 3rd placed CTCA 3 – 2.

Nampol picked up 15 valuable points after their singles players won both their matches with Micha Hartmann beating CTC “A”’s Eno Akpabio 6/1 6/3 while No 2 singles player Hennie Bergh got the better of Melissa Khupe 6/2 6/4.

CTC “A” had to play Khupe, a female player, after top player Kallie Heese pulled out from the tie with an injured elbow.

In the doubles, Hartmann combined with Berg to beat the combination of CTC “A”’ s Colin Nyandoro and Patrick Paulus 6/2 6/3. CTC “A”’s two wins came in the matches where the Nyandoro/Paulus combination saw off Nampol’s veterans Jack Dempsey and Karl Hartmann 3/6 6/3 7/6 (10/3).

Despite showing some good double’s play, the experienced pair also lost to the Khupe/Akpabio combination 3/6 4/6. The final score for the Nampol /CTC A tie was 15-5 in favour of Nampol.

In other action, CTC C overcame CTC-OTB 3 – 2, and 15 points to 5 that saw Walter Kamukono beat CTC-OTB’s Peter Brinkmann 6/3 6/3 and CTC C’s David Impinge coming out tops against CTC-OTB’s Greg Chase 6/1 7/5 in the singles.

In the doubles, Brinkmann and Chase teamed up to beat CTC C’s Lawrence Kahindi and Masoka Mabhena 6/2 6/3.

The Kamukono/Ipinge combination defeated the CTC-OTB team of Bas Rijnen and Dirk Stein 6/4 6/4. Rijnen and Stein had earlier cruised past CTC C’s Kahindi and Mabhena 7/5 2/6 7/6 (10/3).

That match made the overall score for the CTC C/CTC-OTB tie 15-5 in favour of CTC C. The other three teams in the league did not play as SKW had a bye and the CTC B/UNAM encounter could not be played after Unam was not able to field a team.

The 2014 interclub championship will be decided after the two last outstanding rounds of November 15 and November 22.
