The Namibia Water Corporation, through its cooperate social investment policy, has donated textbooks valued at N$240 702 to 12 schools in the Ohangwena region.
The ceremony took place at Kaupumhote Nghituwamhata Combined School in Eenhana circuit.
The donation demonstrates NamWater’s commitment to supporting the development of education in rural areas, CEO Abraham Nehemia said.
He highlighted the corporation’s dedication to empowering communities through educational support.
“NamWater is fully- committed to fulfilling our social responsibility objectives, aligned with our strategic plan and Namibia’s development goals under the fifth national development plant (NDP 5) and the Harambee Prosperity Plan II,” Nehemia said.
“By providing essential educational resources to the Ohangwena region, we aim to create a brighter future for our children and uplift our community,” he added.
The donation, he said, will address a significant gap in educational resources, particularly in rural areas.
“This initiative supports NamWater’s goal of ‘one learner, one book’, ensuring that every child has access to the quality education needed to achieve their full potential,” he said.
Benefiting from the gesture are Oshamono Combined School, Onanona Combined School, Ndjabeka Primary School, Elakalapwa Combined School, Onamunhama Combined School, Kaupumhote Nghituwamhata Combined School, Lazarus Haufiku Combined School, Oshawapala Combined School, Okahenge Combined School, Ounyenye Combined School, Haihambo Primary School, and Amwiimbi Combined School.
Receiving the donation, Ohangwena governor Sebastian Ndeitunga emphasised that education is key to development.
“This donation goes beyond textbooks, as it is an investment in the dreams and future success of our learners,” he said.
He added that equipping children with the necessary educational resources will not only improve academic outcomes, but also foster a new generation of leaders who will drive the country forward.
“You are the future of this nation. Use these resources to your advantage, study diligently and strive to become the scientists, engineers and leaders our country needs,” Ndeitunga encouraged them.
NamWater’s strategy does not stop at providing textbooks, as the cooperation plans to continue supporting rural education through the provision of additional learning materials and stationery, infrastructure and ICT development in schools, and psychosocial support, including learner counselling services, and the supply of uniforms.
