ONGWEDIVA – Swapo vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said the Swapo-led government has significantly improved HIV/AIDS treatment and curbed the negative effects associated with the virus.
“Today, people have access to ARVs. People are no longer dying of HIV/AIDS because the Swapo-led government worked hard to ensure that this disease has been defeated, and we will continue doing it,” she stated.
Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks during a Swapo rally in the Okaku constituency of the Oshana region on Sunday. During the event, Swapo’s presidential candidate for the next election also cautioned this constituency’s residents against “making a mistake by removing Swapo from power”.
She urged them to ensure that they vote for Swapo candidate Fillipus Taukondjele,.
The party has brought development to the constituency, and it has been at the helm of Okaku constituency leadership since independence, Nandi-Ndaitwah observed. She pointed out the construction of 13 schools in the constituency, improved roads infrastructure and healthcare facilities, amongst others.
She also addressed the issue of the Windhoek municipality, claiming that there is no leadership in the capital city.
“Last year, Windhoek was flooded because there is no leadership. During the Swapo leadership, this did not happen. When did you see Windhoek being flooded?” she asked.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said this happened because Windhoek residents voted for the opposition to rule the city council.
“We are in trouble. Next year, we will not allow this to happen again,” she noted.
By-elections at Okaku are expected to take place on Friday, 17 March. This follows the death of constituency councillor Hannu Gerson Kapenda last year.
