Windhoek
Minister of Works and Transport Alpheus !Naruseb has told staff in his ministry to work together to achieve greater success.
!Naruseb made the call while addressing staff members during an annual address at the ministry’s headquarters in Windhoek yesterday.
“I want us to work as a team, you know, a team like Black Africa, African Stars, the Sharks, the Bulls and believe you me, if we have overcome the urge of being individual then you have achieved a great deal,” he said.
!Naruseb told staff to desist from thinking some are better and superior to others.
“We are all citizens of the land of the brave. I don’t want any person to feel a lesser citizen of this country than the next person,” he said, adding that nobody should think that if they are from Usakos they have better standing in terms of citizenship in this country than the person from Omungwelume.
“I don’t care what your religious beliefs are, neither do I care what political party you affiliate to. All I’m looking at is a fellow functionary within the ministry, to whom I am looking up to strengthen my hand to deal with the responsibility I’m entrusted with,” he added.
!Naruseb further told staff that a callous disregard for time and for their colleagues in the workplace are detrimental to their own success.
On his part, Deputy Minister James Sankwasa James told staff to change their attitudes in order to achieve greater heights.
He also warned staff against absenteeism and reporting for work late, saying those found wanting would be dealt with severely.
Sankwasa said if the tendency is not curbed, it could cause the system collapse: “We will not allow a situation where workers report for work in their own time, as this is a recipe for poor service delivery.”
