National karting championships tomorrow

Speed action returns to the capital this weekend, as the fifth leg of the Namibia National Karting Championships roars to life at the Tony Rust Race Track on Saturday, 19 July 2025. Hosted by the Windhoek Motor Club, the event promises a day packed with speed, skill, and fierce competition.

The upcoming championship follows closely on the heels of the African Open, where many young Namibian participants recently showcased their talents. With momentum building, spectators can expect an exciting display of motorsport from Namibia’s best young drivers.

Bradley Ferreira, representing the Namibia Motorsport Federation (NMF), expressed excitement ahead of the race weekend. “The event expects no less than 25 entries, and we believe that the youngsters will be able to deliver their best,” he said. “We’ve also got the best officials and marshals on board and are certain that this event will be one to look out for.”

Among the young talents to watch is 9-year-old kart racer Russell Josephat, who recently competed in the prestigious African Open held at Zwartkops racetrack in South Africa. His father shared that Russell hasn’t had much time to practice due to the school holidays and catching up on academic work. “He’s going into this race with enough points to win the championship; the race on the 19th is merely for seat time,” he said. “We’re definitely looking forward to it.”

The national karting series has grown in popularity over the years, playing a key role in nurturing young motorsport talent in Namibia.

With professional organisation, high safety standards, and a competitive spirit, the Tony Rust leg is expected to set the bar even higher for the remainder of the season.

Motorsport fans are encouraged to come out in numbers and support local talent as engines rev and adrenaline takes over the tarmac.
