The Namibia Association of Women in Sport (NAWISA) will celebrate its 10th anniversary in various towns this weekend.

The northern capital Oshakati will be a hive of activity with several sporting disciplines on display at the town’s Independence Stadium on Saturday.

The celebrations kick off with a 100-metre sprint for disabled athletes and will be followed by netball and soccer games, and to add the cherry on top of the cake, there will be all-men netball teams in action as well.

The President of NAWISA Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana, who holds both portfolios of Minister of Justice and Attorney General, will be the keynote speaker at the occasion.

Ithana is also President of the governing women’s sport body on the continent, African Women in Sport Association (AWISA).

Arandis’s Community Development Centre sport ground will be the centre of attraction with several recreational activities lined up for the day.

The expected large crowd will be treated to some exhibition matches in netball, volleyball, basketball, darts and tennis.

The Etosha Sport Stadium in Outjo is the place to be as the organizers have put an appetizing menu on the table, which includes a seven-a-side soccer match for both men and women, including a 100-metre dash for people living with disabilities.

Men are going to encroach on women’s territory when they confront their female counterparts in a netball match, while both genders are also expected to flex their muscles in a tug-of-war challenge.

The celebrations will be rounded off with a fun game where competitors are obliged to run with boiled eggs on a spoon.
