The National Council, the reviewing chamber of the Namibian Parliament, is in a special session this week to review six significant bills recently passed by the National Assembly.

The bills under review include the Income Tax Amendment Bill, Value-Added Tax Bill, Transfer Duty Amendment Bill, Stamp Duty Amendment Bill, Divorce Bill, and the Regularisation of Status of Certain Residents of Namibia, their Descendants, and Foreign Spouses Bill.

These pieces of legislation were adopted by the National Assembly during a special session held from 5 August to 9 August this year.

In accordance with Article 75(8) of the Namibian Constitution, the National Council has 30 days to review bills related to taxation and financial matters.

According to the Secretary of the National Council Tousy Namiseb, the NC is constitutionally required to examine all bills passed by the National Assembly.

Namiseb said the current session will continue through Friday this week.
