NEFF, IPC: Ties that bind

OKANDJENGEDI – Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) leader Panduleni Itula says Namibians have an opportunity to vote for change tomorrow.

He made these remarks at the IPC’s final star rally held at Okandjengedi in the heart of the Oshana region, where scores of patriots converged to listen to their chief ’s message ahead of the decisive poll.

Only the IPC has the interests of Namibians at heart, he stated.

“How much longer do you need to suffer at home? It is no longer fashionable to vote for history.

It is no more fashionable to sing liberation struggle songs as means to convince people to vote for you. What have you done for 34 years?” he asked rhetorically.

Itula continued: “How can you vote for the same party for 30 years, yet your situation remains the same? You are demanding plots and houses and jobs, but nothing. They are living a luxury life, while you are going to be hungry. What are you voting for?”

On the day, Namibia Economic Freedom Fighters’ (NEFF) president Epafras Mukwiilongo and economic commissar Michael Amushelelo, dressed in their red overalls and berets, made a surprise visit and joined the IPC congregation, cementing their support and mutual interests.

Back in 2019 when Itula contested for presidency as an independent candidate, the NEFF were among the political parties who rallied behind him.

In return, Itula told Namibians to vote for him and any opposition party for the National Assembly election.

On the day, he said the visit by the fighters demonstrated the spirit of democracy.

“[It] shows that we are opponents, not enemies. I am very thankful for wishing us well, and shaking hands with your brothers and sisters,” Itula said, adding that his duty as Head of State, should he assume that role, is uniting Namibians, irrespective of their political affiliation.

At the same event, Amushelelo, who spent less than 10 minutes, said they just passed by to demonstrate political maturity.

“We came to show solidarity support, and to show Namibians that politics should not divide us. We are all Namibians,” he observed, adding that they all want what is best for Namibia, as political divisions will not take them anywhere.

“We are here to support the IPC and the presidential candidate. This is just to make people understand politics,” he stated.

Mukwiilongo likewise said the reason for showing up at the IPC rally was simply to show solidarity.
