The eagerly awaited arrival of the Namibian Football Association’s (NFA) newly appointed technical director one Jochen Figge has been put on ice, while the German Football Federation looks for a suitable replacement.
A reliable source close to the NFA made the confession to reporters yesterday after he was quizzed on the secrecy surrounding the much-anticipated arrival of Figge.
The much-travelled 61-year old German national has been fingered for having inflated his curriculum vitae when he applied for the position of head coach of both the Ethiopian Senior and Olympic teams in 2002. Figge took charge of the Ethiopian senior soccer team in 2002 with the mandate to take the continental perennial underachievers to the 24th edition of the African Cup of Nations finals hosted by Tunisia in 2004.
During his short stint with the Ethiopians,Figge steered the team to 2nd place halfway through the qualifying group stage of the African Nations Cup qualifiers, but the German was summarily given the boot for failure to furnish the FA with the required documents needed to support his application.
The position of NFA technical director has been vacant ever since the shock resignation of Seth “Mataba” Boois, in November last year.
