By William Mbangula Oshakati The National Housing Enterprises (NHE) is to spend close to N$60 million on construction of houses at Ondangwa, Oshakati, Eenhana and Outapi within the next three years. NHE Manager of Public Affairs, Aina Shipanga, confirmed this to New Era. NHE will start constructing 20 houses this month at Outapi where it has bought 204 erven, of which 113 are currently being serviced. The installation of services is scheduled to be completed by July this year. Such houses are expected to be completed next year at a cost of N$10ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 600ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000. Another prominent husing project by the NHE will take place at Ondangwa, where 39 houses and blocks of flats for rental accommodation are to be built. There are also 140 plots at Ondangwa which are currently being serviced. These houses are expected to be completed next year at a cost of N$12ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 300ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000. Shipanga further told New Era that there are 73 erven in Eenhana belonging to the NHE that are fully serviced. The construction of 20 houses out of 73 will commence this month, and the total investment for such houses is estimated at N$9ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 700ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000. Oshakati is one of the towns in the North which will benefit most from NHE housing programmes, with 2ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 235 unserviced erven acquired so far, which will cost about N$35ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 000, earmarked for housing purposes. Shipanga said: “NHE is currently busy with the design of all bulk services, reticulation services, roads and storm-water drains for the whole area. The process will be carried out within three financial years. During this financial year, NHE plans to provide bulk services and reticulation services. Once the above-mentioned have been completed, the construction of houses will follow in Oshakati.”
