Rapper Cassidy Karon is hosting an event at the Goethe Institute tonight, an hour-and-a-half of live music, running through his catalogue, but most importantly his upcoming album, My Ma Se Kind.
Translated into English as My Mother’s Child, Cassidy says the event is a celebration of the old and the introduction of his new album, which was released on 28 September 2024.
He collaborated with Mega SlaughterHouse, YGK, Max Junior, Khadija and others like percussionists who would be backing him. He promises a true cultural experience, blending hip-hop, jazz, kwaito, Namibian kasi culture, meticulous raps and groundbreaking sonics.
“This is going to be a high-end merge of culture, especially with the collaboration that is around. Apart from that, there will be merchandise available like t-shirts from // Concept and My Ma Se Kind from my collection and CDs from previous albums,” indicated Cassidy.
He is a 7x award-winning Namibian Hip Hop artist, fashion designer, creative director, songwriter and producer with four albums under his belt. Since bursting onto the scene in 2009 with the award-winning duo Paradox, Cassidy has been making waves and solidifying his place in the music industry.
“With 16 years in the industry, supporters can expect a high-level performance, professionalism, artistry, being comfortable in my skin, and delivering a narrative that I worked for so long to get to this level,” he empasised.
With his 2019 debut solo album 80’s Mercedes, he secured the Best Hip Hop gang at the Namibian Annual Music Awards, followed by two more albums (Katutura’s Favorite Son and Street Light).
