NNN jets out to SA for working visit

NNN jets out to SA for working visit

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will travel to South Africa today for a one-day working visit. This trip marks her first official visit to South Africa since becoming president on March 21, 2025.

Presidential spokesman Alfredo Hengari, in a statement released yesterday, highlighted the importance of the visit.

“The visit marks the second meeting between President Nandi-Ndaitwah and  President Cyril Ramaphosa of the Republic of South Africa,” Hengari noted.

He said the focus of the visit will be to deepen and expand the strong ties that exist between the two nations, especially in key economic areas.

“During the introductory visit, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will hold official talks with President Ramaphosa to explore avenues for deepening and expanding bilateral relations, specifically in various economic sectors such as agriculture, financial services, tourism and mining,” Hengari said.

Namibia and South Africa share significant economic connections. South Africa is Namibia’s largest trading partner and hosts the most foreign companies operating in Namibia. Conversely, Namibia is a leading investor in the South African economy.

Both countries are also members of the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu), an organization vital for regional economic integration. Namibia is set to host the next Sacu summit on 27 June, 2025.

In 2012, the two nations upgraded their cooperation by transforming their Heads of State Economic Forum into a Bi-National Commission (BNC).

“Since its establishment, the BNC has served as a critical platform for high-level dialogue, coordination of economic and foreign policy positions, including the implementation of joint programmes across a broad range of sectors,” said Hengari.

He added that South Africa and Namibia have more than 150 ongoing agreements.

The President’s visit aims to build on these long-standing relations, Hengari added.

“The working visit of President Nandi-Ndaitwah is aimed at further consolidating these long-standing relations and setting a renewed tone for enhanced collaboration to give effect to the 2024 Swapo Party Election Manifesto and its Implementation Plan.”
