NNN takes aim at AI abuse

NNN takes aim at AI abuse

Charles Ndeumane

Vice president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has warned that if not used controllably, Artificial Intelligence can lead to laziness and render people ineffective in their duties.

This, Nandi-Ndaitwah, affectionately known as NNN, said may pose serious concerns about the development of future leaders.

Although she acknowledges the
importance of AI in development, She is concerned as nowadays, individuals no longer make use of their brains to get answers to questions
and find solutions to situations, but rather run to AI for easy solutions.

“I am not anti-technology, but I am worried because nowadays you ask a
person to write you a statement about the relationship between Namibia and Tanzania and within a minute, the statement is
already there. Now, honestly speaking, is this the type of people you want to produce to save the continent?” she asked.

Nandi-Ndaitwah stated that excessive reliance on AI may interfere with the country’s democracy at some point. “We will end up having elections run by Artificial Intelligence because it is Artificial Intelligence that deals with your figures and so forth. Where are we going as Africans? Are we really part of this development?”

Nandi-Ndaitwah made these remarks while speaking at the Pan African Women’s Organisation conference in Windhoek recently.  mrndeumaneraycharles@gmail.com
