Namibian football club Young African FC will face AS Maniema Union of the Democratic Republic of Congo in an international friendly today at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek at 11h00.
The match, confirmed by the club in an official statement, will be played behind closed doors and will not be open to the public. The decision follows strict directives from the Windhoek Municipality, allowing the use of the stadium solely for training purposes.
“We issue a stern advisory to all supporters and members of the public: Please do not attempt to travel to or gather at the Sam Nujoma Stadium. Access will be exclusively granted to players and essential management staff from both clubs.” The club emphasised that no spectators will be permitted entry under any circumstances and urged fans to respect the restrictions in place.
A source stated that the closed nature of the fixture underscores the urgent need for government intervention to upgrade stadiums to FIFA standards.
Despite the lack of public access, Young African expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from its fan base.
“The club appreciates the unwavering support of its fans and requests their cooperation in respecting these necessary protocols,” the statement added.
The fixture serves as part of Young African’s pre-season preparations, as both teams gear up for upcoming domestic and international competitions.
