ONGWEDIVA – The Northern Electricity Distributor (Nored) announced a 11,6 per cent electricity tarrif increase with effect from last week Tuesday.
According to the Nored public relations officer Herman Ngasia, electricity has increased by 10 cents per unit from last year.
“Whereas N$100 would have got you 65 units, the N$100 purchase will now get you 61 units,” said Ngasia.
The increase was approved by the Electricity Control Board (ECB), the regulatory body of electricity pricing in Namibia.
Nored said the increase is still below the NamPower average increase of 13 per cent.
The company however encourages all its clients to use electricity sparingly, especially during the winter season and peak hours from 18:00 to 21:00. According to Ngasia, proper usage of electricity during peak hours will assist the country in not having to implement load shedding.
