North anticipates flash floods

North anticipates flash floods

Auleria Wakudumo

The Namibian Meteorological Services has warned communities of potential flood flashes in the northern regions.

It urges residents to stay vigilant and prepared as heavy rains are expected in the northern regions throughout the week.

Northern regions in general are forecasted to experience rainfall with areas such as Rundu and Ondangwa likely to receive more rain throughout the week.

Communities are, therefore, urged to be vigilant and prepared for potential risks that come with floods.

The country’s interior has already recorded significant rainfall this week in various areas, with the heaviest showers occurring in Rundu, Ondangwa and Oshakati. Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Mariental, Keetmanshoop Walvis Bay and Omaruru have also received good showers.

Meanwhile, Uukolonkadhi Traditional Authority senior leader Malakia Shoombe, urged residents to take safety precautions by avoiding crossing water at high tide and walk in groups while holding hands.

Shoombe also advised residents, especially pensioners, on the dangers of crossing water pans while intoxicated.

“Let’s avoid crossing water at night and remember the safe routes to our houses,” Shoombe added.

He further advised parents to accompany their children to school during this period to avoid drowning.
