The Namibian Rugby Union (NRU) has been inundated with enquiries regarding the colours of the official Namibian rugby team jersey for this year’s IRB Rugby World Cup participation.

Namibia’s primary (home) playing kit is the blue one in which the team is likely to be kitted out in most of its matches at the Rugby World Cup. Namibia’s customary secondary (away) jersey is usually white but for the Rugby World Cup it will be red, for the following reasons:

Hosts, England’s primary jersey is white and since they are the host nation, none of the other countries will be allowed to have white jerseys unless the colour white is also that country’s usual colour (white).

In that case, if Namibia’s primary (home) jerseys were white, the country would have been obliged to play in a white jersey. As it is blue, NRU and several other countries were requested by IRB Rugby World Cup “NOT” to have white jerseys as it could potentially clash with the host nation.
