Shall we continue what I started about two months ago? So, every month, I have got this thing where I share a personal playlist of Namibian music.
This is something I promised to do every month.
But as usual, evidently, there is a need to add a bit of a disclaimer: This list that I share monthly is not a New Era list. It is not sanctioned by New Era, or endorsed by the publication in any way. This list is not a Fresh FM list either. This has nothing to do with playlisting it on the radio, or getting your song on the radio. I do not own Fresh FM. Fresh FM has its own management, rules and processes.
This list is in no way related to any other business I am involved with.
I am a music-loving Namibian.
I staunchly believe I should be allowed a personal opinion.
So, please understand that these songs are on my personal playlist.
These are songs I play in my personal setting. No agenda whatsoever… just a pure feel and love for music.
First things first. I do not think the one half of Ethnix, Page, gets the recognition he deserves.
I do not know how he manages to sound fresh and dope on every song he features.
Does Page even have a bad song?
A song where one goes, “Ah gazi, that’s kind of mid. You could’ve done better”.
And even if there is a bad Page feature somewhere on this earth…sigh, so what? Right?
What Page did on DJ Vuyo’s ‘Mekuntu’ and ‘Dorado’ needs to be a case study somewhere in school.
These songs are laced with something, and I think that something is the Page effect.
Plus, he has got this uncanny ability to make whoever he is on a song with sound so good.
For example, what he did for Jittah on ‘Ila’ is amazing.
Jittah is not someone whom I would ordinarily listen – to be honest.
However, ‘Ila’ is ranking up kilos on my personal playlist because of Page.
Page also has this ability to work with artists who are unknown, but deserve your time and day.
One such musician is Necky.
Check out the song ‘Loco’, and you will see the sheer brilliance of Page.
Page deserves his flowers, and he deserves it now!
Speaking of new artists, oh my goodness.
The next two artists I am about to highlight remind me of the joy quality new music brings to my soul.
They are both female, and I have no idea who the heck they are.
Zero information. But the music is amazing.
Starting with Mo’ – she seems to be into Afro-pop with a touch of dance hall.
Her song, ‘Are you ok?’, randomly popped up on my YouTube.
YouTube now understands me, I guess. Lol.
In my head, this must be some other African chicka – anything but Namibian, until she started spitting in Oshiwambo.
I am like, hold up.
Let me start this song over, and I have been hooked ever since.
The second song is, ‘Give you my love’, by SheCantGo.
Again, I have zero idea who this is.
All I know is that she is Namibian, and that the song is so good.
It is not your Pwarakata house. It is smooth. It caresses your ears – pleasant music!
I am ending off my list with none other than a duo, whom I believe needs to fill a stadium to demonstrate their power.
I am talking about T-Bozz and Staika.
‘Chip’ has me taking me back to my roots.
These guys are such Ma/Gaisa purists.
They know their sound, and they understand their market – that is that.
To be honest, I am still blasting the songs from the first and second editions of NSK’s monthly favs.
If you do take some time out to listen to these songs, tweet your thoughts, using the hashtag #IndustryLoop.
Happy listening!
Until the next Loop, we say #GMTM. Need an MC? I’m YOUR guy. Hit me up! – naobebsekind@gmail.com
