The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation and the Namibia Training Authority this week signed a sponsorship agreement towards the WorldSkills Africa 2022 competition, scheduled to take place from 28 March to 2 April 2022 in Swakopmund.

The competition will see more than 100 competitors from 11 different countries competing in 16 technical and vocational skill categories.

At the signing ceremony, NTA acting CEO Muvatera Ndjoze-Siririka announced NBC as a gold sponsor of the event with its value-in-kind sponsorship worth N$2 million.

The sponsorship will cover a broad spectrum of specialised media productions, advertising and broadcasting support, including daily live television broadcasts of the event on television and social media.

NBC will live broadcast the official opening ceremony on 28 March 2022 between 18h00 and 20h00. There will be daily TV and radio broadcasts over the course of the competition and conference components from 09h00 to 10h00, 12h00 to 13h00 and 18h00 to 19h00. There will also be an official closing ceremony live broadcast on 2 April 2022 between 18h00 and 20h00.

Siririka highlighted that the NBC brand stands to significantly benefit from the platform as well by gaining visibility and an exposure opportunity. He said that as the organisers, the NTA remains confident that the competition will serve as an excellent platform for NBC and other partners to sponsor brands, from which to forge meaningful brand connections and that NBC has proven itself as a reliable partner that shares the same strategic objectives to leverage technical and vocational careers amongst young people.

“On behalf of the WorldSkills Africa Swakopmund 2022, we would like to thank NBC for the exemplary support and collaboration. Thank you for joining us as we build a culture of technical and vocational skills in our country,” said Siririka.

The NBC director general, Stanley Similo, said they look forward to the competition that includes students because it takes away the stereotype that students need to be academics in order to succeed in life.

“This is something we need to push so that apart from the whole academic process, we should also allow them to make use of their hands,” he said.
