Nujoma’s final journey ahead of burial

Nujoma’s final journey ahead of burial

The late Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s Founding Father, is being honoured with a nationwide procession and series of regional memorial services.

The journey of his body began yesterday at State House in Windhoek, where a crowd of officials gathered to pay their respects. From there, Nujoma’s body was transported to his home in Etunda. Today, the procession continues to Eenhana. On 22 February, the body will make its way to Rundu, and on 23 February, to Zambezi.

The following days will see the procession travel to Grootfontein on 24 February, Walvis Bay on 25 February, and Keetmanshoop on 26 February. A street procession will take place in Windhoek on 27 February, with a memorial service scheduled for 28 February. Nujoma will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre on March 1.
