Ode to Corry Ihuhua

Home Opinions Ode to Corry Ihuhua

Please allow me to seize this opportunity to join the nation in mourning the passing of the late Corry Ihuhua. I had a golden opportunity to work with Corry over the years.

I recall very well in the formation of my sport leadership development, how the late Corry would challenge us as upcoming sport administrators to always be on the side of the truth.

He would challenge us to push the noble frontier of sport transformation in previously white-dominated sport codes without fail. These noble attributes have become part of my inner fibre and consciousness – to always be on the side of the weak, marginalised, oppressed and disadvantaged in the sport sector.

It is no doubt that Corry’s contribution to the development of sport over the past years will always remain a beacon of inspiration to many of us. His legacy must be inscribed in the history of sport for the benefit of future generation.

Corry was an admirable sport journalist, using his golden pen to build a better and more inclusive Namibia for all. We had an opportunity to learn from a great mind. We must collectively pick up the spear of the nation and continue to develop sport in all corners of our beautiful country.

This would be the best gift we can accord the life of Corry. My sincere wish is that his name must be amongst the heroes and heroines that should be recognised in the Namibia Sport Hall of Fame.

Let us celebrate Corry’s life, because there are unique lessons that we can learn from his illustrious life. The world is much richer because of your legacy.

Go well, son of the soil.
