WINDHOEK – Tobias Namweya who allegedly beat his girlfriend Peneyambeko Nangula Thomas and then stabbed her friend, Monika Wilhelm, when she came to her aid pleaded not guilty to all charges in the Windhoek High Court before Judge Naomi Shivute yesterday.
Namweya who was 40-years-old when he committed the crime is facing one count of murder, as well as two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Namweya did not disclose the basis of his defence, but his Legal Aid lawyer, Titus Mbaeva told New Era that the defence would become apparent during the trial. The State alleges that Namweya assaulted Thomas with whom he was at Okahandja Park on September 9, 2009 by beating her and hitting her with stones. It is further alleged that Namweya unlawfully and intentionally killed Wilhelm on September 20, 2009 at Okahandja Park informal settlement in the Windhoek District. According to the charge sheet, Namweya and Thomas had a romantic relationship that had gone sour.
The charge sheet further states that on September 09 an argument erupted between the two resulting in Namweya assaulting Thomas. It further stated that when Wilhelm came to the aid of Thomas, Namweya turned on her the same way. After almost a week-and-a-half Namweya, who suspected that Wilhelm had advised Thomas to dump him, allegedly stabbed Wilhelm seven times on her body at Frans Indongo Primary School in the Okahandja Park informal settlement in the Windhoek District. Wilhelm died on the scene. The matter was postponed to today and Namweya remains in custody. Advocate Jack Eixab appeared on behalf of the State.
