In their quest to make an impression in the first division, Okakarara Young Warriors are heading to Otjinene in the Omaheke region this Sunday to play pre-season friendlies.
The Okakarara-based team made its debut in the 2023/24 Debmarine Premier season and was relegated from the country’s top-flight league the same season.
Emmel Katjimuine, who is the team’s head coach, said the team’s prime aim is to return to the Premier League next season.
“These types of games will help us fix our team, see the potential of the new players as well as scout some,” said Katjimuine.
Okakarara Young Warriors will play against formidable Otjinene and Okondjatu All Stars to sharpen for a new life in the first division league.
“We are going to play against two strong teams, away from home, and that will give us a strong test. These two teams are powerful forces in the Namibia Rural Sports Development Federation tournaments,” he said.
Katjimuine added that the team lost five players and two were signed officially by Eeshoke Chula Chula and Mighty Gunners.
Edward Kavetuna was signed by Chula Chula while Mighty Gunners penned Michael Kamuserandu.
“We are aware of some of our players who are training with Okahandja United and Young African, and nothing procedural was done regarding their departure,” he noted.
The head coach further called on the club supporters to rely on the team in their plight for top-flight football.
The first game is expected to start at 08h00 while the second will be at 12h00.
The Okakarara team came 14 in the league last season, with 27 points ahead of Orlando Pirates and Life Fighters at number 15 and 16 in the log with 26 and 20 points respectively.
