Omaheke Regional Council will today host its 3rd extraordinary meeting, where new members of the regional council’s management committee will be elected to serve for the next two and a half years.

Omaheke chief regional officer Pecka Semba yesterday shared that all logistics and required processes are now in place for the meeting, which will see three new members of the management committee being elected.

The constituency councillors that will be vying for the various positions hail from Aminuis, Epukiro, Gobabis, Kalahari, Okorukambe, Otjinene and Otjombinde constituencies.

“Everything is set for the council meeting. As someone who works closely with the management committee, I’m looking forward to a smooth process and one that will deliver the desired outcome of those that will be voting on the day. This is a very important process and it will determine the magnitude and worth of the work that will be done for the next two to three years at regional level. We have a lot of capital projects to undertake and many others have to be completed in the coming months, so strong leadership is always needed,” said Semba.

“We want to continue with the construction and electrification of houses in the various constituencies and also finalise the water retention project at Witvlei and other many developments in the region. As the region’s accounting officer, I will always stand ready to work with whoever emerges from the elections, because it is about taking services to our people at the end of the day.”

Kalahari constituency councillor Ignatius Kariseb has served as the three-member management committee’s chairperson since 2020, along with Otjombinde councillor Wenzel Kavaka and Epukiro’s Packy Pakarae. All three councillors are from Swapo.
