ONGWEDIVA – The police in Oshana region have arrested a 36-year-old man who is suspected to have murdered the 24-year-old Elise Nepolo Shikongo whose remains were found buried in a shallow grave at Omayanga on the outskirts of Oshakati on Wednesday.

Regional crime investigation coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Hilya Haipumbu said the suspect was arrested on Thursday at the same village.
Haipumbu said preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was murdered at the suspect’s residence before he buried her.

“It is alleged that he killed her in his room,” said Haipumbu.
The method used to take her life has not yet been established. Also, the events that led to the murder has not yet been established.

The deceased was allegedly previously employed at the suspect’s neighbours at Omayanga.
According to Haipumbu, the deceased left home at Oshakati West where she was employed as a domestic worker claiming that she was going to see a friend whose name she did not disclose.
She was last seen on 23 November 2020.

Further information revealed that the deceased was reported missing three days before her remains were discovered.
The police said the gruesome crime was discovered by an individual who was passing in the vicinity where the deceased was buried.

The man allegedly saw an arm sticking out from the ground and went to inform the headman who informed the police.
The police were called to the scene in the afternoon and the body was exhumed that Wednesday evening.
Her next of kin have been informed.
