The Omba Arts Trust joins the rest of the world tomorrow in marking World Fair Trade Day

Fair traders across the globe are forming human chains to celebrate World Fair Trade Day and to show the people who are making a difference, Agents for Change to highlight Fair Trade as a tangible contribution in eradicating poverty and trade injustices, and as a tool for economic empowerment of the marginalised. “Here in Namibia, Omba Arts Trust celebrates Fair Trade because we have witnessed the transformation it brings to marginalised communities.  Health, nutrition, education of children, and women’s empowerment are just a few of the impacts of fair trade through crafts.  We form a human chain in solidarity with fair traders and Fair Trade supporters around the world,” confirms Karin le Roux, Ombo Arts Trust director.

Namibian-designed and produced fair trade craft may be purchased at two retail outlets in Windhoek. Omba’s stall is located across from the café in the Namibia Crafts Centre at 40 Tal Street, and the Art-i-San gallery shop is located in the rear courtyard of the Old Breweries Building.

The World Fair Trade Day is an initiative of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) that takes place on the second Saturday of May of each year.
