OSHAKATI – By yesterday the second day of the third school semester Omuthitu Combined School learners near Okahao in Ogongo circuit had not yet returned to school from the second term holidays.

Parents refused to send their children back to school until the secretary they accuse of “bad behaviour” and maltreatment of fellow teachers and learners was transferred to another school.

A teacher who chose to remain anonymous said a disciplinary hearing was held in March this year, “but nothing had been up to now as the approval from Windhoek on enforcement of disciplinary recommendations was still pending”.

The parents gathered at the school on Tuesday to demand an answer on the outcome of the disciplinary hearing and from the Omusati Education Directorate following a demonstration held at the end of the second school trimester.

But the Omusati Regional Acting Director of Education, Loide Shatiwa, met with the teachers and parents of the school yesterday and confirmed the region and the parents had reached consensus to send the children back to school today (Thursday).

The secretary in question will continue her job as usual pending the answer from the Office of the Prime Minister that is apparently supposed to sanction any disciplinary measure.
