OMUTHIYA – The Omuthiya Town Council (OTC) plans to name 89 streets in the town before August this year.
Proclaimed a town some 17 years ago, Omuthiya was named the capital of the Oshikoto region in 2015.
Mayor Beata Nashongo informed Nampa on Wednesday that consultations are currently underway to have the streets named.
She said only three streets currently have names. These are Nakaziko, Ya Ndakolo and Kalambalalwa Streets.
“We are yet to sit and discuss how to go about the naming of the 89 streets after traditional and community leaders, war veterans, and anybody who contributed to the development of the town”, chairperson of the street-naming committee Johannes Ndeutepo said.
He added that the process depends on the availability of committee members, as no specific dates have been set yet for them to meet.
The street-naming committee was established in 2021.
