This year’s 2023 Ondjola Annual Sports Festival is set to take place from 23 to 26 December at Ondjola Stadium in the Tsandi District under the tagline ‘preserving culture through sports.’
This is an annual event that was launched in December 2009.
The Ondjola Annual Sports Bash is a non-profit initiative dedicated to youth recreational outdoor sports around the country, which have been attracting attendees from the Ohangwena, Oshana, Oshikoto, Omusati, Otjozondjupa, and Erongo regions.
The event has witnessed over 4 000 participants and spectators as it grows annually.
The organising committee is made up of Page Kashikuka, Jack Iipinge, Kanu Kashikuka, and Kriat Kamanya.
They are excited to welcome another fun field week, and they are sure that this festival adds value to the lives of local residents of Tsandi district, as they have also seen rising stars from the festival.
“One of the most important objectives of the Ondjola sports bash is to encourage the youth to combat crime, anti-social behaviour, and gender-based violence during the festive season,” said Ipinge.
The Ondjola executive committee would like to acknowledge NamibMills as an associate partner and calls on businesses and corporations alike to make it bigger and better in its 15th year.

“Over the past years, the event has grown from what used to be a soccer event only to now include other sports codes like netball, boxing, cycling, marathon and volleyball. The event has over the years attracted over 42 soccer teams, 12 volleyball teams, and six netball teams in 2022, compared to eight teams in 2009 when it started,” says Kashikuka.
Ensuring a fun field of festivity, Poiyah Media reassured that the Ondjola annual sports bash will be bigger and better this year.
“We would like to thank the corporate companies that came on board through the investments because this will plough back to the infrastructure at the Ondjola stadium,” says Ilke Platt, the founder of Poiyah Media.
