The newly elected councillor for Onyaanya Constituency, Petrus Kambala, says he wants to have roads tarred and the current clinic upgraded to a health centre, among many other developments he envisions for the constituency now under his mandate.

Kambala – who was Swapo Party’s district coordinator for a decade – succeeds former constituency councillor Henock Kankoshi, who was appointed as regional governor recently.

Kambala said that during his tenure as Swapo regional coordinator he was privileged to be part of the Constituency Development Committee (CDC) tasked with regional development.

“The then councillor has done his part. I will just continue where he left off because the areas that need to be developed are known through the CDC meetings, which I had the privilege to be part of,” stated Kambala.

Emphasising the need for the roads and the health centre, Kambala said the health centre is particularly important for his constituency because a high number of accidents has occurred between Omuthiya and Ondangwa.

“The health centre in Onyaanya will save a lot of lives. Patients involved in accidents will no longer be taken to Omuthiya and Onandjokwe, which are miles away, but they will be able to be assisted here. The plan is to have a doctor stationed at the health centre,” elaborated Kambala.

Kambala said the constituency has a dire need for speed humps at various spots along the B1 road to reduce the number of people being run over by motorists.

He added that there is also a huge need to electrify schools in the constituency.
At the moment the majority of schools with Grade 10 have already been electrified, but the majority of primary schools have not.

He said three of the junior primary schools would get electricity this financial year.

Similarly, he said it is also the constituency’s desire to electrify business outlets to boost business and create projects for people to sustain themselves.
Kambala also feels it remains the constituency’s wish to create jobs for its inhabitants, but emphasised that this can only be achieved once constituencies are given the privilege to have their own budgets at constituency level.

He said although the constituency does have its plans his office looks up to government and line ministries to provide them with the needed funds to carry out their tasks.

Kambala implored people to be patient as the constituency does not have the required funds at its disposal.

“This money does not come from individual councillors’ pockets, we also wait for government to pronounce itself. So my humble request is for people to be patient and remain united,” he said.
