WINDHOEK – As part of its aim to become a self-efficient, educated and responsible citizen, the Ohorongo-Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), in liaison with Global United Football Club, with their partner “Trinkwasserspende.de”, recently donated three fresh water coolers to the Shalom Primary School and the Khorab Secondary School in the Otjozondjupa Region.
Most of the pupils from the two schools do not have general access to fresh drinking water, even at their own homes, as most of them come from small rural settlements in and around the town of Otavi. The Khorab Secondary School in Otavi has about 650 pupils and the school was in dire need of fresh drinking water, especially at the sports facilities. The children now make use of the new water cooler during the break and also in the afternoons during outdoor activities. The Shalom Primary School, situated in the residential area of Khoaeb in Otavi, is attended by about 1 100 pupils who were very grateful for the two new fresh water coolers.
The headmaster of Shalom Primary School, Mr Gwala and the headmaster of Khorab Secondary School, Mrs Opperman, the teachers and the children all thanked OOCT and Global United for the generous donation that makes a huge difference in their daily lives.
The mission of Global United is to fight global warming by playing exhibition football matches at various world-wide locations affected by climate change. By making use of the global popularity of football, it serves as a great platform to raise awareness on the alarming issue of global warming and increasing environmental awareness.
The trustees of OOCT identified three focus areas which they considered to have the greatest potential to improve the lives of the people of Otavi, namely infrastructure, education and healthcare.
OOCT, in liaison with Support e.V. (Ulm) identified and executed a number of initiatives believed to positively contribute to improved living conditions for the people of the Otavi area and ultimately the sustainable socio-economic development of the town.
