Opinion – Old Mutual introduces insurance for farmers

Home National Opinion – Old Mutual introduces insurance for farmers

Gert Grobler

The agriculture sector remains the backbone of the Namibian economy as its biggest employer, and it has over the years been one of the significant sectors that have contributed to national coffers.

The sector remains a crucial engine due to its nature of creating a source of income, food security, foreign earnings and the provision of raw materials to the manufacturing industry.

The agriculture sector’s contribution to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), excluding fishing over the last five years, has been just over 4%.

Livestock farming comprises approximately two-thirds of agricultural production, with crop farming and forestry making up the remaining third of production.

According to financial services provider Old Mutual, it understands the challenges involved with protecting agricultural risks and the impact that unforeseen events can have on the long-term sustainability of an agricultural producer’s business.

As such, Old Mutual Short- Term general manager for Commercial Lines Gert Grobler said the company’s Agrisure product offers a holistic risk protection solution, tailored to an individual farmer’s needs.

“Agrisure is backed by service excellence, and supported via a national branch network with sales offices throughout the country. Through Agrisure, your farming business will be protected by a company with tremendous financial strength. Equally, Agrisure allows you the flexibility to select from a wide range of cover to provide you with the protection you need,” said Grobler.

He added that the Agrisure cover extends from house owner cover to home, buildings, vehicles, irrigation systems on wheels, theft, accidental damage, livestock and pedigreed animals, as well as machinery breakdown, and it offers fast-tracked claims services that can be tailored to suit individual ne e ds. Gu e s t hous e s (accommodat i on and lodging) also have additional cover automatically included.

Said Grobler: “With Agrisure, you have one product, one document and one premium for all your short-term agricultural insurance needs. With this extended risk cover, Agrisure offers the farmer total peace of mind and coverage at affordable premiums. Old Mutual believes that you should always have a positive claims experience with a speedy turnaround time that is as easy and stress-free as possible”.
