By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO The Opuwo Town Council is recruiting a new chief executive officer following allegations of misappropriation of funds by the previous CEO and town treasurer. Former CEO Libertus Mbaumba and town treasurer Dickson Kahuva were suspended more than eight months ago. The vacancy that was advertised early this month closes Friday, June 30. Dynamic executives from all parts of the country meeting the requirement have already been advised and encouraged to apply for the vacancy. Head of the Technical Division at the embattled town council Abel Katjoho has been acting in that position since Mbaumba’s suspension late last year in early November. Even though the closing date for the vacancy is scheduled for next week, New Era understands it has been ‘so far so good’ with regard to the response from the general public wanting to fulfill the vacant position. The duo faces charges of allegedly having ‘overpaid’ themselves, fraud and theft among others. The suspended town treasurer is expected to appear in court in October this year while the date of the former CEO taking up his position is yet to be scheduled. Mbaumba’s five-year contract expired in the middle of May this year while he was still on suspension.
