The Namibia School Sport Union (NSSU) will host trials this weekend for the upcoming All-Ages Netball tournament.
The event is set to take place in South Africa at the end of the month.
NSSU president Rodger Kambatuku said all 14 regions of Namibia will convene in Windhoek for the trials.
The trials will be held at the Windhoek Gymnasium and Wanderers Netball Court.
The upcoming tournament in South Africa is slated for 29 June to 2 July in Boksburg, Gauteng Province.
It will feature age categories from U/12 to U/18.
This weekend, regional teams from all 14 Namibian regions will gather, competing for top honours, with the best vying for a spot in the final squad that will travel.
Speaking to this publication, Kambatuku expressed anticipation for an exciting weekend, expecting a large turnout.
He stressed the importance of such tournaments for discovering and nurturing raw talent.
“We are expecting regional teams. This Saturday promises to be very exciting, with teams from across the regions battling it out for places in the final squad that will represent the country in South Africa,” Kambatuku said.
“We have all age groups – from as young as seven years to 18 years – all going to vie for a place. I think such competition plays a crucial role in building their confidence at a younger age. Additionally, I believe this is an excellent platform for scouting raw talent,” he added.
Eben Ambondo, NSSU netball chairperson, who is responsible for the logistics surrounding the competition, stated that from the organisers’ side, they are ready to host the trials and expect all regions to arrive before Friday.
“From the NSSU side, we are ready to welcome all regions to the capital for the tournament. We are expecting a fruitful competition with top-level netball on display. We have contacted all regional coaches. They have assured us that they are set to go,” he said.
