Log leaders of the MTC NNPL Mighty Gunners extended their good run in the MTC Netball Namibia Premier League (NNPL) with two victories over the weekend.

Gunners played Otjozondjupa Nampol in their first match on Saturday, which they easily won 58-24, and also defeated Grootfontein 48-37 to extend their lead on top of the premier league log standing.

Speaking to this publication, Gunners acting team manager Desire Namases said their performance was outstanding and wish to keep the same momentum in their quest for the title.

She added that the inspiration comes from the team as a collective, having one common goal this season of winning the title. 

“Our girls went out there and stuck to the plan as a team, put up a great performance and executed it. The main motivation for the great performance this season is focus and working together as a collective, and we plan on keeping up the momentum heading forward,” said Namases.

She is aware that heading forward will not be that easy, as all teams are chasing the same title, adding that as a team, they will continue practising every day to ensure there is no more room for mistakes.

“We have to remain focussed. Since the league is in its second round, every team is eyeing the same title – and we have to make sure we don’t make any blunders. We will continue to prepare, as we are aware of the pressure that will be piling on us,” she said. 

In other matches played at the coast, Eleven Arrows suffered a defeat to Namibia Navy with a 33-57, while Navy defeated Blue Waters in their second match by 62-25. 

In the last match of the day, Eleven Arrows came out tops after beating Blue Waters 41-29.

Games played in Windhoek saw defending champions Namibia Correctional Services (NCS) lose 38-42 to Tigers, while Afrocat Lions suffered a defeat to Tigers (31-47). 

NCS, however, redeemed themselves with a victory against Afrocat Lions (47-38).
