Man claims ‘witchcraft’ after rape

ONGWEDIVA - A man who allegedly raped his relative at Oshaale-Shoonkoshi village in the Uuvudhiya constituency, claims that he has been “bewitched” to carry out the horrendous crime.

“I am bewitched to sleep with her. I woke up with a spirit telling me to have sex with her. I can’t believe I raped her. I did not use a condom because there were no condoms in my room,” he told New Era.

Immanuel Shikongo Shatyohamba (40) was denied bail yesterday when he made his first appearance before Toini Shilongo in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court.

His case was postponed to 9 May 2023 for further police investigations.

Shatyohamba claims to have been in the company of his victim before but he never had the urge to engage her sexually.

“I am also worried. Something is wrong with me,” he added.

The accused was arrested last Thursday after the mother of the victim alerted the police.

According to the police, Shatyohamba grabbed his victim by the arm, pulled her into his sleeping room and had sexual intercourse with her while they were alone at home.

Last week, an 88-year-old pensioner, accused of raping a three-year-old girl which caused her death, was also denied bail when he appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court.
