Fourteen medals were awarded to officers at the Oshikoto Police Commander’s Parade in Omuthiya last week. The day also saw a number of officers promoted. Oshikoto regional commander Teopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku, congratulated those who received medals and promotions.

She said they are ready for action this coming festive season and will have boots on the ground. Among the awards is the Decoration for Outstanding Meritorious Service of the Highest Order (OMS), awarded to Kephas Kamati of the Special Reserved Force.

This award is given to a member who has distinguished him or herself by rendering outstanding meritorious service and utmost devotion to duty on the grounds. Another award is the Wound Medal, which was awarded to Leonard Paulus, the head of the firearms control unit. The recipient of the Namibian Police Service gold medal went to Andreas Shilongo of the VIP subdivision, who served the force for 30 years.

Six police force members were promoted to various ranks, including Wynand Hermanus Neels, who was promoted to deputy commissioner, heading the operations division. Hermine Kasiku Arachas was promoted to chief inspector and will be serving as the regional traffic coordinator of Oshikoto. This position was previously held by Neels. Kalompo-Nashikaku said officers are gearing up for the festive season and assured the public that the men and women in uniform are ready for their safety.

“I want to assure the public in our region that the men and women in uniform are here and ready for their safety. You do not have to be worried when you are celebrating Christmas and New Year’s Eve with your family. We are ready; our boots will be on the ground and ready for action this coming festive season,” she said.

She also sent out a stern warning to those planning to commit crimes, saying the police force will be on the lookout for such criminals.
