Otjinene boxers need support – Tuaire

Following their stellar performance in the recent boxing competition held on the eve of Otjinene Expo, the chairperson of the Otjinene Boxing Club (OBC), Kaupaseneua Tuaire, said the future of the young boxers looks bright, but that they need support.

The Otjinene boxers recorded six wins out of 10 fights, which Tuaire said was a great improvement compared to last year’s event, where they managed to get only two wins out of the 11 fights.

Otjinene boxers competed against their counterparts from Gobabis, Special Force, Okakarara and Grootfontein.

“One can see that the future looks bright and promising to these young boys. All we need to do is give more attention to their development training,” he said.

The chairperson said more emphasis must be given to the guiding aspect to motivate them to know that boxing is a sport and not a fighting event.

“We have boxers in this constituency. We need to scout and mould them as early as possible,” he said.

Tuaire said the boxers require proper promotion through the ranks and exposure them to competitions to gain more experience.

“These will be possible if we can acquire funds and support from the stakeholders in sport for the development of sport in Otjinene,” he added.

The chairperson further said hosting events such as the recent Otjinene Boxing tournament was an ideal platform to scout future boxers.

“We have to compliment all those who played their part in the event. We would like to thank everyone who has assisted us in many areas, such as training, officiating, and all forms of donations for the event to take place,” he acknowledged.

The Otjinene Boxing Club is under the umbrella of Otjinene Sports, whose prime role is to support all sport codes in the area and keep young people away from the streets and dangerous places.

“We have to guide them properly and nurture them on the importance of sport. We care about their future, and we will try as much as possible to assist them in reaching their goals in sport.”
