Otjombinde Arts and Culture Festival successful

GOBABIS – The Arts and Culture Festival, held recently at C. Heuva Secondary School in the Omaheke region’s Otjombinde Constituency, has been described as a resounding success.

The event, spearheaded by the Division of Lifelong Learning, Arts and Culture in the education ministry, is primarily aimed at promoting and preserving arts and culture in all schools in the region.

It is also a platform where diverse cultural groups from different schools showcase their traditions while learners demonstrate their artistic talents.

Mweneni Angula, a member of the organising committee, told Nampa that four circuit schools participated in the vibrant event.

The learners involved were from Tianju Happiness Hope Primary School (PS), Traugott Kandorozu PS, Helena PS and Donkerbos PS.

“This festival showcased a spirited spirit of community, creativity and cultural pride,” said Angula.

During the event, various groups were selected to represent the Otjombinde constituency at the regional competition slated for Gobabis later this year.

In the cultural performance item, Traugott Kandorozu PS and C Heuva SS were selected as best performers.

Helena PS joined their counterparts from C Heuva on stage and delivered a compelling dramatic performance, earning them a spot at the regional level in the drama category.

Meanwhile, in the visual arts competition, Tianju Happiness Hope PS, Helena PS and C Heuva SS emerged tops, with the trio to represent the constituency at the regional showpiece.

Angula said the festival was widely celebrated as a success.

Learners demonstrated creativity, confidence and collaboration.

“There were stellar performances from the learners here – but unfortunately, due to the lack of sponsorships, no awards or prizes were given to the best groups,” she said.

Despite that, she noted that the festival fosters unity, pride and visibility for cultural expression.  – Nampa
