History will be in the making this weekend for a group of Under 13 youngsters from Otjomuise, 7de Laan and 8ste Laan suburbs, when they travel to the coast to compete in the Swakop Football Club (FC) tournament.

Not only will they debut at the tournament, but most of the youngsters in the traveling entourage will see the holiday resort of Swakopmund for the first time. The youngsters have been competing in the NFA Youth League and Inner City League in Windhoek for the past couple of years, thus making it their first time to compete outside Windhoek.

At tournament, the youngsters will rub shoulders with teams from as far as Otjiwarongo and Rosh Pinah, as well as other Windhoek outfits led by Swallows, Ramblers, SFC and SKW. The youngsters expedition was made possible through the generous assistance of Camoposatu Investments, represented by its Board of Directors’ chairperson, Nico Kaiyamo.

On Saturday, the boys had a proper warm-up for the tournament when they defeated SKW-A by 2-1 in their NFA league clash. However, they suffered a setback when they lost 2-1 against Tura Magic.

The Swakop tourney is more than a soccer outing for the boys, as it will also serve as an educational excursion. Otjomuise Football Academy coach Sacky Elago, who will be in charge of the team, will help the boys with schoolwork and assignments while also giving them pep talks on education and sports. As such, the trip will mean more than just a soccer game for the boys.

A Polytechnic of Namibia student, coach Elago has his eyes firmly set on taking top honours at the tournament. The team currently occupies top spot in the Inner City League and sit third in the popular NFA league.
