ONGWEDIVA – Namibians from all corners of the country will flock to Outapi in the Omusati region to celebrate one of the most important days on Namibia’s calendar, Independence Day on Tuesday, 21 March.
Several events have been planned across the country to celebrate the occasion, but the grand parade will be held at the Olufuko Cultural Centre, which will be attended by dignitaries and members of the public.
The Outapi Town Council’s CEO Nashilongo Ananias said this is the best opportunity for informal traders to generate income as the town will be full of visitors, who are potential customers.
On Tuesday, he confirmed to New Era that informal traders will be allowed to sell their goods within the Olufuko centre during the event.
Over 40 people are so far registered as vendors for the day.
“We have prepared a very big place inside the Olufuko centre for those who are willing to sell goods,” he added.
Ananias advised prospective vendors to use the Omusati governor’s office to register before 20 March, with registration being free of charge.
“Even those outside the Omusati region are welcome to register and trade because the Independence celebration is for all Namibians,” he noted.
Informal traders were urged to come in big numbers and register because there are still more spaces.
In addition, Ananias said street vendors must refrain from selling on the streets on that day because the town is going to be full, and it may compromise safety.
“We are ready to host an Independence Day celebration in our town. The town is well-cleaned, and more space has been created for parking,” he enthused.
