Over 30 000 votes rejected during general elections

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) Elsie Nghikembua on Tuesday said a total of 14 552 votes were rejected in the just-concluded 2024 Presidential elections, representing 1.3% of the total votes cast.

At the final official announcement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections results, the chairperson said 1 099 582 people had voted. 

Namibia registered a total of 1 449 569 eligible voters ahead of the general elections.

Nghikembua officially announced that Swapo’s presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is the president-elect. Fifteen candidates participated in the presidential election.

In the National Assembly elections, 21 political parties contested for seats. 

A total of 15 898 votes were rejected, representing 1.4% of votes cast. The total rejected ballots for the two polls are 30 450.
