OMUTHIYA – A total of 93 traffic summonses were issued to drivers for violating traffic rules and regulations within the first days of the ongoing festive season operation period in the Oshikoto region.
According to the crime update issued on Monday by Oshikoto Namibian Police’s Commissioner Wynand Neels, the police have recorded a number of crimes of concern during the season operation period from 17 to 27 November 2023.
“A total of two serious accidents were recorded with six serious injuries and two fatalities,” reported Neels.
He further reported that the vehicle movement on the national roads is moderate, but the wet and rainy season has an impact on the drivers, especially on the gravel road.
“The wet and slippery road conditions cause drivers to lose control and cause accidents,” said Neels.
He reported that in the region one alleged murder and one arrest case were recorded during this period, alongside one rape and arrest case.
“An assault of gender-based violence with domestic violence was recorded with two arrests. Two stock thefts were reported with two arrests being recorded, and four possessions of illicit goods with four arrests being recorded,” reported Neels.
Neels said one arrest was recorded for contravention of petroleum products and energy.
