The Pan African Center of Namibia (PACON) applauds SADC for the planned introduction of a single SADC visa, the organization’s chairman, Johannes Tjitjo, has announced.

“This move is progressive and positive in the sense that it actively and practically places our regional block in a better position to prepare itself for the envisaged realization of the United States of Africa,” Tjitjo said in a press statement.

PACON commends SADC for visible positive moves towards the dream of continental integration.

“A dream remains a dream for as long as it has not been transformed and translated into tangible practical programmes and projects. The recent opening of common border posts is also a step in the right direction,” he said.

PACON urges all African countries individually and collectively to work relentlessly towards the realization of the continental union government.

“It is our hope that the resolve by African Heads of State and Government in Ghana to put impetus to the oiling of this much awaited dream, will not gather dust somewhere in the corridors of power, but will surely see the light, and open a futuristic avenue for the unity of the African people,” he asserted.

In his view, it is high time that the respective African governments see to it that national debates and opinions are conducted in order to ensure that the rank and file members of the African family endorses and eventually owns the process as articulated by our leaders.

“For PACON, the unity of the African people cannot be compromised any longer. Africans have suffered enough, mainly because of disunity and the colonial tactics of divide and rule.

“Thus, clear directives and conscious programmes and plans of actions with clear deadlines should be prepared and followed to the letter and spirit,” he urged.

“As Africans, who suffered brutal holocausts; who were subjected to unprecedented genocides; who were forced to go to war in defence of the motherland; who were robbed of our land, dignity and our right to live and decide our own future; we should work around the clock to nurture our hard won freedom and independence and forge our unity of purpose. We must remember peace and stability are priceless,” Tjitjo concluded.
