ONGWEDIVA – Inspector General of Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo said he had been discharged from Ongwediva MediaPark on Tuesday after he was admitted following a car accident.

Shikongo confirmed to New Era yesterday that he is now at his homestead in the care of his relatives, however, he did not yet start work.

“I am well, just waiting to recover fully so that I can go back to work to continue saving the nation,” he said.

On 30 December 2022, around 01h00, Shikongo was involved in a car accident when he was driving his private vehicle on the Oshikango-Ondangwa road near Indangungu village in the Oshana region.

A head-on collision occurred between a white Toyota Hilux double cab of Shikongo and a white Hyundai, which resulted in all three occupants in the Hyundai vehicle dying instantly, while Shikongo was rushed to the Ongwediva MediPark.

The deceased were identified as Sofia Natangwe Ananias (22), Fransa Pombili Ndengu (27) and Stefanus Hafeni Shahafinge, age not known.

Furthermore, Shikongo urged the public to stop spreading fake stories that he was severely injured and also that he was taken to a hospital outside the country.

“People should stop spreading rumours if they are not sure because they are confusing the nation,” he added.

He also thanked people for keeping him in their prayers.

“I managed to communicate with the families of the deceased where I shared my condolences with them. May their souls rest in peace,” Shikongo said.

He added that the police and the public should continue working together to fight against crime in the country.
