KEETMANSHOOP – The Namibian Police at Bethanie are looking for three suspects who allegedly tied up a 61-year-old farmer and robbed him.
Police crime investigations coordinator for the //Kharas region Nikodemus Mbango said in a crime report issued to Nampa on Sunday the alleged robbery happened on Saturday around 19h00 at Farm Middledam in the Bethanie district.
“It is alleged that three suspects went to the farm, assaulted the owner, tied him up, before demanding keys to his safe. They opened two safes, and stole one rifle. They also stole food items, a solar pump and an assortment of tools,” said the report.
The men allegedly also took the victim’s vehicle, which they used as a getaway car, although the vehicle, food and tools were recovered.
“After the suspects left, the victim managed to walk to the neighbouring farm, and alerted the police. The police launched an investigation, and the vehicle was intercepted while approaching Keetmanshoop, but the suspects abandoned it and ran. A manhunt was launched to apprehend the suspects,” said the report.
During preliminary investigations at the victim’s house, police found three different shoe prints which approached the house from the back. It is suspected the suspects dismantled the solar pump before entering the house through a window.
The victim was taken to the Keetmanshoop State Hospital for treatment.
Police investigations continue.
