WINDHOEK – Some members of the police force are unhappy because they have not yet been remunerated for work executed over last years’ November elections.

Dr Hage Geingob and the Swapo Party, which he represented, resoundingly won the elections.
“They won the elections now they forget about us,” a senior police officer, who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation, confided to New Era.

Police officers were apparently promised a daily allowance of N$540.

A police constable said he worked two days but is yet to receive his daily allowance of N$1 080.

The police officers further alleged that they filled in their claim forms, a process they said should take a maximum of two weeks before their allowances are paid out, but almost three months have passed and they are yet to receive their money.

Inspector Slogan Matheus of the Police Public Relations Department said “Yes, indeed, it is true that members of the Namibian Police Force in the Khomas Region, who performed official duties during the elections, did not receive their money yet.”

The Inspector-General of the Namibian Police Sebastian Ndeitunga gave a directive that all members of the force, who performed official duties during the Presidential and National Assembly elections last year, should be paid Subsistence and Travelling Allowance (S&T), Matheus added.

He further said after the elections, members were informed and advised to submit their claims for payment. “Some members did submit their claims already; some are still yet to submit… The Khomas Region is one of the regions with a lot of police officers who performed official duties during the elections, and we are currently busy ensuring that all the members submit their claims, so that all of them can be attended to once and for all,” he said.

“I can confirm to you that all the members in the Khomas Region, who performed official duties during the elections, will be paid accordingly, just like their counterparts in other regions. It’s just a matter of getting the logistics in place and then we will start with the process of paying out the money,” assured the police spokesperson.

Matheus requested the affected police officers to be patient and appealed to aggrieved members to direct their inquiries to respective unit and station commanders
