WINDHOEK– The Polytechnic of Namibia (PON) held its International Cuisine Day last week under the theme ‘Sada!gao !gaob, Sada #nisasib, Sada !goaxa //aeb (Our roots, Our pride, Our future).
The aim of the celebration was to explore tastes and cuisine but at the same time to enjoy culture. The large crowd of students and visitors was entertained by different performance from the Polytechnic Choir, followed by the Korean dancers, then the PON parade dancers and the Spanish dancers. After the different dances from the groups the Rector Dr Tjama Tjivikua welcomed the students, visitors and later opened the doors to the venue.
The DJ entertained with good music to welcome all the guest and students as they make their way into the venue to buy their desired food. Different types of food from different cultural groups such as the Aavambo, Nama, Coloured, Ovaherero and Caprivian to Angolans, Nigerians, Cubans, Spanish and South African food and many more were sold at prices ranging from N$3 to N$20.
There was a variety of food such as biltong, Ovambo chicken, fish fillet, ginger, various salads, fat cakes, samosas, beef kebabs, chicken liver cooked with pomegranate molasses, and so much more.
